leadership

For the first three months of my term, a small team of three — myself, my vice president, and our secretary — managed the whole organization.

I then recruited and on-boarded four vacant roles, including a new role, Graphic Design Historian, to elevate our marketing and brand strategy.

With a team of seven, I fostered a collaborative culture through daily texts and weekly meetings, driving significant growth in membership and engagement.

event planning

I managed 15 events across the academic year.

Fall semester centered on equipping students with essential business career skills through a comprehensive professional development workshop series, including a headshot photoshoot (taken by me), LinkedIn optimization, resume writing, time management strategies, collaborative study session with LWIB members, and networking fundamentals.

Spring semester expanded upon these skills with in-depth exploration of personal branding, business etiquette, and financial literacy.

Events were seasonally themed to incorporate holidays, academic milestones like midterms, and cultural observances such as AAPI Heritage Month, Women's History Month, and National Financial Literacy Month. Icebreakers were implemented to foster interaction and community building.

women in
business panel

I spearheaded the development and execution of the inaugural Lee Women in Business panel as part of LWIB's Women’s History Month celebration.

Through strategic planning and close collaboration with my team, we assembled a diverse group of six accomplished businesswomen. I moderated the panel with my Communications Coordinator, facilitating an inspiring discussion and empowering attendees.

By ensuring seamless event logistics, we created a memorable experience that showcased the impact of women in business.

Thank you to the panelists for their time and wisdom!

presentations

When it was just a team of three, I created compelling presentations aligned with each event's theme.

For example, our first event of the year centered on providing a comprehensive introduction to LWIB, outlining our mission, values, and the unique experiences we offer prospective and returning members.

Leveraging my marketing knowledge, I positioned the presentation as an elevator pitch, effectively communicating LWIB's value proposition. While adhering to a "back to school" theme, I prioritized maintaining brand consistency.

outreach

To expand LWIB's membership, I focused on recruitment through on-campus outreach, including tabling at events and presenting to first-year business students. I prioritized clear and concise messaging, treating each interaction as an opportunity to highlight LWIB’s value proposition. Sharing personal experiences helped build rapport and generate interest.

active membership point system

By benchmarking against other women in business student organizations, I identified SDSU WIB's active membership point system as a potential best practice for increasing engagement within LWIB.

Our goal was to position LWIB as an accountability partner for members' professional development while incentivizing consistent participation. The point system, divided into attendance, involvement, networking, and professional development established clear expectations for active membership.

To recognize member achievements, we offered incentives such as goody bags, certificates, and an exclusive chance to put LWIB on their resume and LinkedIn profile.

This initiative was successful. We grew from 7 active members in Fall 2023 to 17 active members in Spring 2024.
